In February 2008, Trust Thamesmead received planning permission from Bexley Council to go ahead with Sporting Club Thamesmead - a £4m redevelopment of Thamesmead Town Football Club, to transform it into a community sports centre.

The planning permission granted the ‘demolition of the existing clubhouse (Thamesmead Town Football Club) and erection of replacement clubhouse incorporating a spectator seating area, provision of a new floodlit all-weather pitch, two multi-use games areas, car park and landscaping.

The Club building and the layout of the outdoor facilities have been designed to reinforce the open nature of the site from a visitors’ perspective and minimise the impact of the building on the land with the design philosophy being that where possible the building should ‘touch this earth lightly’, creating minimal impact and allowing the building to be appreciated as part of and not simply placed on the land.

We were very pleased to be appointed as main contractor and construction work began on site on 11 October 2009.  Meticuous planning allows Thamesmead Town Football Club to fulfill all of their home fixtures at Bayliss Avenue during the season as the work progresses.

Work has really gathered pace so that Sporting Club Thamesmead will open for business in November 2010.
